Bruges
Bruges (Brugge) was founded in the 9th century by Vikings who settled here at the end of the little river 'de Reie'. Because of the proximity of the North Sea, the settlement very quickly became an important international harbour. Bruges is often called 'the Venice of the North'. This very nice medieval city is one of Belgium's most beautiful cities and very interesting for tourists. In no other European city the feel and the look of medieval times are so present as in Bruges. Some interesting facts about Bruges: |
